Week 82
As it was another standard school week, I thought I'd overlap the weekend with the start of the new week. It is Chuseok so we have a three day holiday to start the new week. We didnt plan much but got up to a couple of things.
On Saturday, we went to Eulsukdo Island where there is a large eco park. We took some sandwiches and had ourselves a picnic in the park. It was still about 30 degrees so the park wasn't busy, therefore we had our pick of all the spots. We laid in the shade under some trees for about 4 hours. The sandwiches were delicious and then I just read.
That evening there was a special drone show down at the beach celebrating Chuseok.
We decided to stay at a nice hanok house for Sunday night in Gyeongju. The place was a comfortable stay for just the night away.
On Sunday when we arrived in Gyeongju we wandered around the busy center where there are lots of shops, cafes and restaurants. We ate lunch and went to a café.
Afterwards, we had booked to do a ring making class. I don't wear any jewelry really, but it's a bit of a popular activity to do around here. We had a lot of fun turning a strip of silver into a ring, I felt at home doing some craft. The lady showed us what to do at each stage, so we couldn't really mess it up. I was happy with how the rings turned out and in typical Korean fashion the lady took a bunch of photos at the end. We won't get the rings back for a month maybe because they have to add a stone in and some other details which are a bit too hard for us amateur ring makers to do.
Monday morning I ran 8 miles of the Gyeongju marathon course which I'm racing in about a month. Only 25 degrees and wet which made for a nice run. Also, Gyeongju isn't a big city and more rural so a lot of the route is more scenic than built-up city running.
We left the hanok after a small breakfast, and went to see the old observatory. It isn't that impressive but is a famous landmark for the city. We enjoyed a walk around the old palace grounds, we got a nice view of the whole city. After that we ate brunch and we were both tired, we didn't feel like going to any other tourist places especially when both of us have seen them before. So we decided to head back to Busan.
I enjoyed the night away, I really love being out the city the flat countryside is beautiful and feels so peaceful compared to the busy city.
