Week 56
Wow. What a day that was! First off thanks to everyone who came to watch and spend the day in Seoul. My Mum and brother, Alex, Suyeon, Liam, Jay, Tolly, Dom, Bellamy, Linda, Ryan and Maggie. Thanks was a great marathon day, spending time with you all afterwards.
The race was the hardest thing I've done, I smashed my goal and ran the marathon in 2 hours and 58 minutes! Knocking a good 15 minutes off my old PB from October.
Found the race quite hard, and my struggles began ealier then I would of liked. My right quad was cramping with about 10 miles to go in the race and my left foot was in a lot of agony, due to my shoes. But, I kept my mind ticking telling myself to keep pushing at every point I thought my foot was coming off the gas.
I kept with sub 3 hour pace group for nearly the whole race, up untill about 2k out where I made the decision to start kicking. I didn't think my group were going faster enough and I think I made the right decision to go ahead. I started just pumping my knees and shouting at the crowd the whole way to the finish. “Come on!”, “let's go!” Paired with lots of arm pumping to the crowd as well. I don't think I could of sprinted that hard without the support the crowd or the crowd to shout at. Alex captured a great video of me sprinting over the finish line, credit to him.
Shout out to Olly for finishing his first marathon and in under 4 hours. Big achievement and even bigger considering his injuries he coped with leading up to the race and during the race.
Also, well done to Alex and Linda for running the 10k!
The rest of the day we waddled around to the Olympic Park and had some food all together in our big group. Then I spent some time with my mum and brother Raf. I'll see my mum again this Friday, when she comes down to Busan. But I won't see Raf again for a while, so it was special to see him this weekend.
I'm now on the KTX train, traveling back to Busan. My legs feel like shite and I'm knackered. Not looking forward to coming back to reality tomorrow, with school at 8.30am.
Love you guys!
